How to apply for HEAT utility assistance (Mountainland Association of Governments) — Wasatch in Utah
Mountainland Association of Governments (MAG) — HEAT Program
Who it's for
The Home Energy Assistance Target (HEAT) program, Utah's version of the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), helps income-qualified households with energy costs. In Summit, Utah and Wasatch counties, MAG runs HEAT. Households may get a one-time benefit each year, and applications are taken October 1 through September 30. To qualify, you must be the person responsible for the utilities, have total household income at or below 150% of the federal poverty line for the month before you apply, and have at least one household member who is a U.S. citizen or qualified non-citizen. Apply online, or mail, fax or email the paper application (heat@magutah.gov). Call 801-229-3855 with questions or to set up an appointment. Processing takes four to six weeks, so keep paying your utility bills. If you have a shut-off notice, the Utility Crisis Program may give more help.
The local HEAT office decides eligibility and the benefit amount, and help depends on available funds.
