How to apply for Carroll County Local Senior Homestead Exemption (65+ county and school tax) in Georgia

Carroll County Board of Tax Assessors, 423 College Street, Carrollton

Who it's for

Carroll County has a local homestead exemption for homeowners 65 or older, on top of Georgia's statewide exemptions. If you are 65 or older by January 1, you get an $8,000 exemption on county taxes and do not pay school taxes on your primary home. There is no income limit. The county exemption also rises when the Board of Assessors raises your home's value, so revaluations do not raise the county part of your bill. Apply with the Carroll County Tax Assessor by April 1. Once granted, it renews on its own. Call 770-830-5812.

You must own and live in the home as your primary residence on January 1 and be 65 by January 1. Apply by April 1 for the current tax year. Home improvements are not covered by the revaluation freeze. The Board of Tax Assessors makes the final decision.
