How to apply for Quitman County Local Senior Homestead Exemptions (65+ county and school tax) in Georgia
Georgetown-Quitman County Tax Assessor and Tax Commissioner, 111 Main St, Georgetown
Who it's for
Quitman County has local homestead exemptions for older homeowners that are larger than Georgia's statewide ones. Homeowners 65 or older with gross income of $40,000 or less can get an exemption of up to $40,000 on local school taxes (school M&O). Homeowners 65 or older with gross income of $22,000 or less, or who get Social Security disability, get a $10,000 exemption on county taxes (county M&O) and the local school bond. You must own and live in the home. File with the Tax Assessor between January 1 and April 1. Once granted, the exemption renews on its own each year. Call the Tax Commissioner's office at 229-334-9000 with questions.
