How to apply for Senior Property Tax Freeze (SB 190) — Daviess

Daviess County (program authorized by RSMo 137.1050, adopted by county action)

Who it's for

Daviess County has adopted Missouri's senior property tax credit (SB 190): homeowners 62 or older can freeze the real-estate tax bill on their primary home, so it stops rising in later years. Applications: new applications and renewals for 2026 will be available on April 1st. County page headed "WHAT IS THE DAVIESS COUNTY SENIOR CITIZEN TAX CREDIT FREEZE (SB190)?" states: "The Daviess County Senior Citizen tax credit freeze is designed to freeze the real estate taxes on the primary homestead and up to three acres of qualified senior citizens who are homeowners in Daviess County." Eligibility: turn or be 62 during calendar year 2025; be a resident of Daviess County; own and live in your primary residence in Daviess County; be responsible for payment of the home's property taxes; and have no delinquent real estate or personal property taxes. "Only one homeowner listed as the owner needs to be 62 or older." The State's blind pension fund and debt levies are exempt from the freeze, and newly voter-approved taxes are added the first year and then folded into the base year. Paper applications are available at 102 N. Main Street, Gallatin, MO 64640, in the Daviess County Collector's Office. Commission Order 25-4 (Senior Tax Credit) is also posted at https://www.daviesscountymo.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Commission-Order-25-4-Senior-Tax-Credit.pdf Apply through the county's program office.

The freeze applies only to the primary residence, requires an application with Daviess County (often annually), and county rules control what is frozen and any home-value limits — the county makes the final determination, so this shows as a may-qualify result.
