How to apply for Ohio Free Hunting and Fishing Licenses for Disabled Veterans
Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife (under Ohio Revised Code 1533.12; eligibility certified by the Ohio Department of Veterans Services)
Who it's for
Ohio veterans whose disability the VA has rated permanently and totally disabling can get fishing licenses, hunting licenses, fur taker permits, deer and wild turkey permits, and wetlands habitat stamps free of charge. The veteran must live in Ohio, have an honorable discharge, and receive VA pension or compensation for the disability. Former prisoners of war qualify too, regardless of disability rating. Approval covers a 5-year period, but each license still has to be picked up fresh every license year. Send the signed application (form DNR 9032-B) to the Ohio Department of Veterans Services for certification.
The statute requires a VA determination that the disability is permanently and totally disabling — a total rating based on individual unemployability also counts, even if the schedular rating is below 100%. The veteran must be receiving VA pension or compensation. Former prisoners of war qualify without any disability rating.
