Who it's for
The South Carolina Department on Aging funds free legal advice and representation by an attorney for people 60 and older, through the Area Agencies on Aging. Help goes first to people with the greatest economic or social need. Legal help can cover income protection, health care, long-term care, nutrition, housing, utilities, protective services, guardianship or defense against guardianship, abuse, neglect, and age discrimination. The Department on Aging also offers free living will and health care power of attorney forms. Contact your local Area Agency on Aging or call the Department on Aging at 1-800-868-9095.
Services are limited and go first to people with the greatest economic or social need. Not every legal problem can be taken. The local Area Agency on Aging or its legal provider decides which cases it can help with.
