How to apply for TennCare Medicaid — Aged, Blind & Disabled

Division of TennCare (Tennessee Medicaid)

Who it's for

TennCare is Tennessee's Medicaid program. The Aged, Blind & Disabled (ABD) category covers people who are 65 or older, blind, or disabled, with low income. In 2026 the income limit is $994/month for one person and $1,491/month for a couple, with a resource limit of $2,000 (one person) or $3,000 (couple). People who receive SSI are enrolled automatically. Apply through TennCare Connect.

Income limit ($994/month single, $1,491 couple) equals the 2026 SSI benefit rate; resource limit $2,000/$3,000. Tennessee did NOT expand Medicaid, so there is no separate low-income-adult pathway. People who need nursing-home or in-home long-term care apply through TennCare CHOICES instead (higher income limit). SSI recipients are enrolled automatically. Not legal or financial advice.
