How to apply for Real Estate Tax Relief for the Elderly & Disabled — Loudoun
Loudoun County Commissioner of the Revenue / assessment office
Who it's for
Loudoun County offers real estate tax relief (exemption) for homeowners who are 65 or older or permanently disabled. Total household income must be $87,000 or less, and net worth (not counting the home) must be $498,000 or less. Effective 2026 (single or married applicants): 100% exemption at income up to $87,000 with net worth up to $498,000; 50% exemption tiers allow net worth up to $1,028,000 with progressively lower income caps (down to $55,000). Must be 65+ or permanently and totally disabled as of Dec 31 of the prior year; exemption covers the residence and up to three acres. First-time real estate applicants apply by December 31. Apply through the local commissioner of the revenue or assessment office.
Limits shown are Loudoun County's current published figures; relief brackets, filing windows, and exclusions are set by local ordinance and the locality makes the final determination, so this shows as a may-qualify result.
