How to apply for Senior Cool Care
Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS), Division for Aging Services — sponsored by Dominion Energy, delivered through local Area Agencies on Aging
Who it's for
Senior Cool Care gives low-income Virginians age 60 and older a free fan, window air conditioner, or portable air conditioner so they can stay cool in summer. Dominion Energy sponsors the program, so the home must be in Dominion Energy's service area, and there must be a need for more cooling at home. Income must be below 150% of the federal poverty level. The program runs May 1 through October 31. Apply through the local Area Agency on Aging. Once a unit is provided it belongs to the recipient and does not have to be returned, but the Area Agency on Aging cannot repair or replace a broken unit. The program does not pay for delivery, installation, or electric bills — for help paying an energy bill, see EnergyShare or the Virginia Energy Assistance Program. Call 1-800-552-3402 for the list of participating agencies.
Senior Cool Care is limited to homes inside Dominion Energy's service area, runs only from May 1 through October 31, and depends on the supply each Area Agency on Aging has on hand — so this shows as a may-qualify result. The local Area Agency on Aging makes the final decision.
What you'll need
