How to apply for Virginia State Veterans Cemeteries (No-Cost Burial)
Virginia Department of Veterans Services
Who it's for
Virginia's three state veterans cemeteries — in Amelia, Suffolk, and Dublin — provide burial for eligible veterans and their families at no cost for the grave site, opening and closing, headstone, outer burial receptacle, and perpetual care. Eligibility follows federal standards: veterans discharged under other than dishonorable conditions who meet service criteria, plus spouses and eligible dependent children. Grave sites cannot be reserved in advance.
Burial eligibility depends on discharge status and service criteria verified from military records, and family-member eligibility on documented relationship — DVS confirms eligibility, so this shows as a may-qualify result.
What you'll need
- DD-214 or other proof of qualifying service
- For family members: proof of relationship
