How to apply for Jones County Local Senior School Tax Exemption (62+) in Georgia
Jones County Tax Commissioner, Gray (Jones County Tax Assessor makes the final decision)
Who it's for
Jones County has a local homestead exemption for older homeowners, on top of Georgia's statewide exemptions. Homeowners who are 62 or older by January 1 get $15,000 of their home's assessed value exempt from school taxes (school M&O and school bond). There is no income limit. Apply with the Jones County Tax Commissioner's Office by April 1; first-time homeowners should bring a copy of the warranty deed. Once granted, the exemption renews on its own. Call 478-986-6538.
You must own and live in the home as your legal residence and be 62 by January 1 of the tax year. The exemption only lowers school taxes. Apply by April 1; applications received later count for the next year. The Jones County Tax Assessor makes the final decision.
