How to apply for Pickens County School Tax Homestead Exemption (62+, income under $25,000) in Georgia

Pickens County Board of Tax Assessors, 1266 East Church Street, Suite 121, Jasper

Who it's for

Pickens County homeowners who are 62 or older with low household income do not pay school taxes on their home. The exemption covers the school tax and any tax for paying off school bonds. The gross income of everyone in the home must be less than $25,000, counting Social Security and other retirement income. You must already have the regular homestead exemption. Apply at the Pickens County Tax Assessor's Office before April 1, with income papers for everyone who lives in the home. Once granted, homestead exemptions renew on their own. Call 706-253-8700.

You must own and live in the home, have the regular homestead exemption, be 62 or older, and have total household gross income under $25,000 (including Social Security, other retirement income, and income from selling property the year before). Apply before April 1; the Board of Tax Assessors makes the final decision.
