How to apply for Spalding County Local Senior Homestead Exemptions (65+ school tax) in Georgia
Spalding County Tax Commissioner, 411 E. Solomon St., Griffin (Board of Tax Assessors decides)
Who it's for
Spalding County has local homestead exemptions for older homeowners, on top of Georgia's statewide exemptions. With no income limit, homeowners 65 to 69 by January 1 get $10,000 off the school part of their home's assessed value, homeowners 70 to 74 get $20,000 off, and homeowners 75 or older get $30,000 off. Homeowners 65 and older can also freeze the value used for school taxes (the floating exemption). Homeowners 65 and older with net income of $15,000 or less can get a larger elderly exemption ($20,000 off county and school values). File with the Spalding County Tax Commissioner by April 1. Once granted, the exemption renews on its own, but you must re-apply when you reach the next age level. Call 770-467-4360.
You must own and live in the home on January 1 and be 65 or older by January 1. The $15,000 net-income elderly exemption and the 62+ school exemption have income limits. Apply by April 1; the Board of Tax Assessors makes the final decision.
