How to apply for Alamo Regional Transit (ART) — Demand-Response Transit (Comal County) in Texas

Alamo Regional Transit (ART) — a service of the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG); demand-response transit district serving 12 rural counties in the greater Alamo Region (Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, McMullen, Medina, Wilson) — non-urbanized areas excluding Bexar County itself (which uses VIA Metropolitan Transit)

Who it's for

Alamo Regional Transit (ART) is the AACOG-operated demand-response public transit serving Comal County and 11 other rural counties around Bexar County (San Antonio). Through the Senior Transportation Program, adults 60 and older can get rides, often free of charge, to meal sites, medical visits, shopping, and community activities. To schedule a Senior Transportation Program ride, call the Alamo Service Connection at 210-477-3275 (Alamo Region line: 866-231-4922). General-public fares depend on distance: $2 within town, $6 for out-of-town trips in the same county, $8 for trips crossing one county line, and $12 for trips crossing two or more county lines. To book a general ART ride, call the reservation center at 866-889-7433 or 210-870-4989 (Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-6 p.m.) or use the ART app. Reservations must be made by noon the day before travel and can be made up to 30 days ahead. Email: mobility@aacog.gov.

ART's Senior Transportation Program is often FREE for seniors — distinctive among modeled TX rural transit operators. The reservation-based model means advance scheduling is essential; same-day rides are rarely available. ART covers AACOG's 12-county rural service area but does NOT extend into Bexar County itself — those trips connect through VIA Metropolitan Transit.

People who qualify for one senior program often qualify for others. See everything you may qualify for — free, no SSN, about five minutes.
