How to apply for ARChoices in Homecare (Medicaid home and community-based waiver) in Arkansas
Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of Aging, Adult, and Behavioral Health Services (DAABHS)
Who it's for
ARChoices in Homecare is an Arkansas Medicaid waiver program that pays for help at home. It serves adults 21 through 64 with a physical disability and seniors 65 or older who need the level of care given in a nursing home. Services include attendant care for bathing, dressing, meals and using the bathroom; home-delivered meals; an emergency call button; adult day services and adult day health; respite care in the home or in a facility to give a caregiver a break; and home changes such as grab bars or a ramp. For 2026, DHS lists an income limit of $2,982 a month for the person applying (a spouse's income is not counted) and a savings limit of $2,000. When one spouse gets care, the other spouse may keep more of the couple's savings. Call the Choices in Living Resource Center at 1-866-801-3435 or your local DHS county office.
An assessment must show that you need the level of care given in a nursing home, and you must need at least one ARChoices service. Income and savings limits apply, and only the applicant's own income is counted. If your income is over the limit, you may still qualify by setting up an Income Trust. DHS makes the final decision. ARChoices does not pay for months before you are approved.
