How to apply for GET-A-LIFT (ADA Paratransit, Kern County)
Golden Empire Transit District (GET)
Who it's for
GET-A-LIFT is the ADA complementary paratransit service operated by Golden Empire Transit District for the Bakersfield / metro Kern County area. Eligibility is functional rather than age-based: you qualify if your disability prevents you from boarding, riding, or disembarking a fixed-route GET bus, from navigating the system, or because the route you need is not lift-equipped. To apply, download the Paratransit Application from the GET website or pick one up at the District office (1830 Golden State Avenue, Bakersfield, CA 93301), then call GET to schedule an in-person functional assessment. Eligibility is determined within 21 days of the assessment. Trip reservations after certification can be scheduled by calling 1-661-869-2GET (2438) between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., seven days a week.
GET-A-LIFT eligibility is functional — based on whether your disability prevents you from boarding, riding, or disembarking from a fixed-route GET bus, navigating the system, or using a route that isn't wheelchair-lift-equipped — and requires both a completed application and an in-person functional assessment, with a determination within 21 days. This check cannot perform that assessment. Start by downloading the application or visiting the GET District office at 1830 Golden State Avenue, Bakersfield, then call 1-661-869-2438 to schedule the assessment.
