How to apply for Aid to the Needy Disabled (AND) cash assistance in Colorado

Colorado Department of Human Services (applications through county human services offices)

Who it's for

Aid to the Needy Disabled gives monthly cash help to low-income Colorado adults under 60 with a disability. There are two parts. AND-State Only helps people age 18 to 59 with a disability expected to last 6 months or longer that keeps them from working, while they apply for SSI; the grant standard is $248 a month. AND-Colorado Supplement adds to the check of people under 60 who get SSI for a disability or blindness but not the full SSI amount; the total grant standard for 2026 is $994 a month. Other income lowers the payment. Resources must be $2,000 or less for an unmarried person or $3,000 for a married person. At age 60, the Old Age Pension takes over. Apply online through Colorado PEAK or at your county human services office.

AND-State Only pays at most $248 a month and only while you pursue SSI; the state recovers it from back SSI (Interim Assistance Reimbursement). The higher $994 standard applies only to AND-Colorado Supplement for people already getting SSI. You must apply for any other benefits you can get. The county human services office makes the final decision.
