How to apply for TheBus Demand Response ADA Paratransit (Hernando)
Hernando County Transit (TheBus) — Demand Response Service
Who it's for
TheBus Demand Response is Hernando County's ADA-mandated paratransit service, complementing the fixed-route bus network for riders whose disability prevents independent use of the regular buses. The service is door-to-door within the 3/4-mile ADA-required corridor around TheBus fixed routes — which means Brooksville and the Spring Hill US 19 corridor are generally well-covered while much of rural Hernando (Weeki Wachee, Hernando Beach, and eastern Hernando County) falls outside the corridor. Eligibility requires a documented disability qualified under the federal ADA. To apply, download the Demand Response application from the TheBus website (hernandocounty.us/living-here/transit-thebus or hernandobus.com), complete it, and submit to the Transit Operator by mail or delivery to 700 Aeriform Drive, Brooksville, FL 34601, or by email at thebus@hernandocounty.us. Once submitted, the Transit Operator evaluates the application and notifies the applicant of eligibility status.
Demand Response eligibility requires a documented disability qualified under the ADA and a trip origin/destination within 3/4 mile of TheBus fixed routes. The 3/4-mile corridor requirement is meaningful in Hernando: TheBus only operates two fixed-route corridors (Brooksville and Spring Hill / US 19), so much of rural Hernando — including Weeki Wachee, Hernando Beach, and eastern Hernando County — falls OUTSIDE the corridor and isn't served by Demand Response even with a qualifying disability. For rural Hernando residents, alternative options include the Florida Transportation Disadvantaged (TD) program (income-eligible, statewide) or volunteer-driver services through Hernando County Senior Services. Submit applications to thebus@hernandocounty.us or to the office at 700 Aeriform Drive, Brooksville.
