How to apply for Mississippi Medicaid for people who are aged, blind, or disabled

Mississippi Division of Medicaid (DOM), through its regional offices

Who it's for

Mississippi Medicaid has several coverage groups for people who are 65 or older, blind, or disabled. People who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) get Medicaid automatically. Some people who lost SSI because of a Social Security cost-of-living raise, Disabled Adult Child benefits, or widow(er) benefits can keep Medicaid. The Healthier Mississippi Waiver covers people who are 65 or older or disabled and do not have Medicare, with monthly income no more than $1,846 for one person or $2,485 for a couple (135 percent of the federal poverty level). People who need nursing home care or home and community-based waiver services can qualify with monthly income up to $2,982 in 2026 and countable resources up to $4,000. Coverage can start up to 3 months before the month you apply. Apply online at access.ms.gov, at a Medicaid regional office, or call the Division of Medicaid toll-free at 1-800-421-2408.

Each coverage group has its own income and resource rules, so apply even if one limit looks too low for you. The Healthier Mississippi Waiver ends when Medicare starts and can close to new people when it reaches 6,000 members. Nursing home and waiver coverage also need a medical need for that level of care and have a 5-year look-back on giving away assets. The Division of Medicaid makes the final decision.
