How to apply for SHARE Home-Sharing Program for Adults 60+ (Monroe County) in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania Department of Aging (SHARE, through the Monroe County Area Agency on Aging)
Who it's for
SHARE (Shared Housing and Resource Exchange) is a Pennsylvania Department of Aging program, run in Monroe County through the Area Agency on Aging, that matches homeowners who want to share their home with people looking for housing. In return the home seeker helps with living expenses, household tasks, or both. At least one person in the match must be over 60, and everyone must be 18 or older. A SHARE Housing Counselor does reference and background checks, introduces matches, writes the home-sharing agreement, and stays in touch after the move. Call the Monroe County SHARE Housing Counselor at 570-832-0538, or the Area Agency on Aging at 570-420-3735.
Matches depend on screening of both the homeowner and the home seeker and on who is seeking housing at the time. The Area Agency on Aging makes the final decision. The county says its phone system has had interruptions — email monroeaging@monroecountypa.gov if a call does not connect.
