How to apply for Lubbock County Medical Indigent Program (UMC)

UMC (University Medical Center) Health System — operated by the Lubbock County Hospital District; the principal teaching hospital and safety net for Lubbock County + broader South Plains region (referral hospital for ~15 rural counties)

Who it's for

UMC (University Medical Center) Health System is operated by the Lubbock County Hospital District, providing the principal safety net for Lubbock County and a broad referral hospital for the entire South Plains region. UMC operates the LUBBOCK COUNTY MEDICAL INDIGENT PROGRAM for Lubbock County residents meeting income and asset guidelines. SEPARATELY, UMC's CHARITY CARE POLICY automatically covers all uninsured patients who don't qualify for other financial assistance — at a discount equal to the amount generally paid by Medicare and private insurers. Apply through UMC's Resource Assistance Department at 806-775-9014 or 1-800-383-8039 (M-F 8am-5pm).

UMC Health System operates BOTH the Lubbock County Medical Indigent Program (income-tested) AND a universal Charity Care Policy (uninsured-discount automatic). For non-Lubbock-County residents, UMC provides emergency care plus discretionary financial assistance.
