Uninsured and underinsured residents of Isle of Wight County can apply for financial assistance (charity care) at Riverside Smithfield Hospital for emergency and medically necessary care. Discounts are based on household size and income compared with the Federal Poverty Level. In-county 50-bed hospital at 19339 Benns Grant Blvd, Smithfield; opened January 6, 2026. The system FAP page's covered-facility list has not yet been updated to name Smithfield (it lists Riverside Regional, Walter Reed, Shore Memorial, Doctors' Williamsburg, Behavioral Health). FAP: uninsured at or below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level receive a 100 percent write-off.
