How to apply for River Valley Metro — Reduced Senior & Disabled Fare + Metro Plus Paratransit (Kankakee County) in Illinois

River Valley Metro Mass Transit District — Kankakee County

Who it's for

River Valley Metro runs the local buses in the Kankakee, Bradley, Bourbonnais and Manteno area, plus a commuter bus to Midway Airport. Riders 65 and older and riders with disabilities pay a reduced fare: $0.50 for a local one-way trip (regular $1.00), $1.00 one-way to Midway (regular $2.00), and $15 for a monthly local pass (regular $30). Show a Medicare card with photo ID, a photo ID showing you are 65 or older, or a Metro reduced-fare ID. People enrolled in the Illinois Benefit Access Program ride free with a photo ID printed by River Valley Metro. Metro Plus is shared-ride paratransit for people with disabilities who cannot use the regular bus; it costs $2.00 one way ($1.00 after 6 p.m.) and requires an application and interview. All local routes and Metro Plus are free on Mondays. Call 815-935-1403 to apply for Metro Plus.

The reduced fare needs only proof of age 65+ or disability. Metro Plus paratransit has its own disability-based application: being 65 or older does not by itself qualify a rider. Free rides apply only to Illinois Benefit Access Program enrollees with a Metro-printed ID.
