How to apply for Louisiana SenioRx — free or low-cost prescription drugs

Louisiana Governor's Office of Elderly Affairs (through the Aging and Disability Resource Centers)

Who it's for

Louisiana SenioRx helps people get free or low-cost prescription medicines through drug makers' patient assistance programs. A counselor at your regional Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) helps you find programs for your medicines and apply. You can qualify if you are 60 or older, or 21 or older with an adult-onset disability, and your gross income is not more than 300% of the federal poverty guidelines. You also must not have voluntarily dropped a prescription drug plan in the 6 months before you apply. Apply through your ADRC, or call the Governor's Office of Elderly Affairs at 225-342-7100.

The ADRC counselor checks income and current drug coverage, and medicines come from drug company assistance programs — not every drug is available. Each drug maker makes the final decision.

What to say when you call

"Hello, I'm calling to ask about Louisiana SenioRx — free or low-cost prescription drugs. I'd like to know whether I may qualify, what documents I need, and whether I can apply online, by mail, by phone, or in person. What is the best next step?"

Step by step

  1. Check that this program fits your situation. You may qualify if you are age 60 or older, or age 21 or older with an adult-onset disability, your gross income is not more than 300% of the federal poverty guidelines, and you did not voluntarily drop a prescription drug plan in the 6 months before you apply.
  2. Apply through your regional Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) or call the Governor's Office of Elderly Affairs at 225-342-7100 to get started.
  3. Complete the application with an ADRC counselor. The counselor helps you look for drug company patient assistance programs for your medicines and helps you apply.
  4. Answer questions about your income and your current prescription drug coverage. The counselor will check this information as part of the application process.
  5. Ask whether each medicine you need is available through a drug company assistance program. Not every drug is available through this program.

What to expect: After you apply, the ADRC counselor helps submit applications to drug company assistance programs for your medicines. Each drug maker makes the final decision, so approval and available medicines can vary. There is no listed renewal requirement for this program.
