How to apply for Carroll County Senior Tax Credit (65+ Homeowners) — Carroll County in Maryland
Carroll County Government (county credit enacted by the Board of Commissioners in 2006); amount set by the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT)
Who it's for
Carroll County gives homeowners age 65 and older an extra property tax credit on top of Maryland's Homeowners' Property Tax Credit. Combined household income must be $50,000 or less and net worth $500,000 or less, not counting the home or retirement accounts. The credit covers up to the first $300,000 of the home's assessed value. Some seniors get the county credit even if they do not qualify for the state credit. Apply on the state Homeowners' Tax Credit form (HTC-1) by October 1 each year; one form covers both credits.
The State Department of Assessments and Taxation decides the credit amount from the HTC-1 application. The credit applies to the first $300,000 of assessed value; a higher-assessed home can still qualify for credit on that first $300,000. Not legal or financial advice.
