How to apply for Mountain Transit Paratransit (Big Bear / Rim of the World)

Mountain Area Regional Transit Authority (Mountain Transit)

Who it's for

Mountain Transit Paratransit (sometimes called Dial-A-Ride) is the federally mandated ADA complementary paratransit service for the Big Bear and Rim of the World mountain communities of San Bernardino County. The service is exclusively for ADA-eligible persons with disabilities — age alone does not qualify. Service is offered within three-quarters of a mile of a Mountain Transit fixed route and only along maintained, paved roads. ADA-qualified passengers ride free within the ¾-mile service area when space is available; additional fees may apply outside the designated area. Reservations require 24 hours' notice (up to two weeks in advance). The application requires one piece of qualifying documentation (SSDI/SSI award letter, handicap placard, or a Mountain Transit Medical Professional Verification Form) plus a government-issued photo ID. Mountain Transit covers the Big Bear and Rim of the World areas only — the Victor Valley uses VVTA Direct Access and the San Bernardino Valley uses OmniAccess.

ADA paratransit eligibility requires one qualifying disability document (SSDI/SSI award, handicap placard, or Mountain Transit's Medical Professional Verification Form), and age alone does not qualify — the scan cannot verify those documents. The service area is the Big Bear and Rim of the World mountain communities only and is limited to within three-quarters of a mile of a fixed route on maintained, paved roads; Victor Valley residents use VVTA Direct Access and San Bernardino Valley residents use OmniAccess. Confirm your address is in the service area and request the application by calling 1-909-878-5200.
