Fuel Assistance (LIHEAP) helps income-eligible households in Worcester County pay home heating bills from November 1 through April 30, with extra protection against winter shut-offs. The Commonwealth funds the program, and Worcester Community Action Council, Inc. (WCAC) takes applications for this county. Uninsured and underinsured residents of Worcester County can apply for financial assistance (charity care) at UMass Memorial Medical Center for emergency and medically necessary care. Discounts are based on household size and income compared with the Federal Poverty Level. Senior & Disabled Transit (Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA)) — Worcester

County

Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) serves Worcester County with WRTA is currently fare-free systemwide, so no senior fare applies. Northern Worcester County (Fitchburg, Leominster, Gardner) is served by the Montachusett RTA (MART), not WRTA. WRTA also runs ADA/non-ADA paratransit and council-on-aging Elderbus demand-response service, likewise fare-free during the suspension.. Older adults and people with disabilities can use reduced fares or demand-response rides for medical appointments, shopping, and other essential trips.
