County

Missouri's Energy Assistance and Energy Crisis Intervention programs (LIHEAP) help income-eligible households in Dallas County pay heating and cooling bills and resolve utility emergencies. The DSS Family Support Division funds the program, and Ozarks Area Community Action Corporation (OACAC) takes applications for this county. Uninsured and underinsured residents of Dallas County can apply for financial assistance (charity care) at Citizens Memorial Hospital (CMH) for emergency and medically necessary care. Discounts are based on household size and income compared with the Federal Poverty Level. Dallas County (Buffalo) has no hospital; CMH in Bolivar is ~20 mi west. CMH's page describes a sliding discount: up to 90% off at 100% of the Federal Poverty Level, 1-89% at 101-249% FPL, no discount at 250% FPL or above. General-public fares one-way: $2.00 in-town, $3.00 in-county, $4.00 adjacent county, $6.00 long distance (3+ counties), $1.00 each additional stop.. Older adults and people with disabilities can use these services for medical appointments, shopping, and other essential trips. Rides are free or low-cost depending on the service.
