CountyThe Appalachian Council of Governments is the Area Agency on Aging for the six-county Appalachian Region, which includes Anderson County. It gives information and help to older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers. It runs the regional Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, the Family Caregiver Program, and the I-CARE Medicare counseling program (SHIP), and its nutrition program serves meals to people age 60 or older and their spouses. Call 864-242-9733, or toll-free 1-800-434-4036, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

LIHEAP energy assistance (Sunbelt Human Advancement Resources — SHARE) — Anderson
CountyThe Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps pay home heating and cooling bills. In Anderson County, LIHEAP applications are taken by Sunbelt Human Advancement Resources (SHARE). The heating program runs October 1 to April 30 and helps with electricity, natural gas, propane, fuel oil, kerosene, wood or coal. The cooling program runs May 1 to September 30 and helps with electric bills, window air conditioners and fans. Call the Anderson County office at 864-224-7028 to ask how to apply. CountyAnMed Medical Center in Anderson offers financial assistance to uninsured and underinsured patients who owe a balance for medically necessary care. Help is based on household income and size: under 200% of the federal poverty level gets a 100% discount, 201–300% gets 85%, and 301–400% gets 75%, applied after a 50% self-pay discount. Public Bus & Senior Fares (Electric City Transit) — Anderson
CountyElectric City Transit runs six bus routes in the City of Anderson, Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Buses can leave the regular route by up to 3/4 of a mile to pick up or drop off seniors and people with disabilities who live off the route. Call 864-231-7625 at least one hour before you want to travel. Fares are $0.25 for seniors 65+, people with disabilities and Medicare card holders, and free for veterans with ID. A 14-ride senior pass costs $3.00.
