Northeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging (NEMO AAA) is the Area Agency on Aging for Marion County. It is the local starting point that connects older adults and caregivers to Region 5 Area Agency on Aging in Kirksville, serving 16 northeast Missouri counties. Programs include information and referral/assistance, in-home services, congregate and home-delivered nutrition, legal assistance, the long-term care ombudsman program, transportation (contracted with OATS Transit), caregiver resources and respite, advocacy, and an in-house wellness center. Marion County has adopted Missouri's senior property tax credit (SB 190): homeowners 62 or older can freeze the real-estate tax bill on their primary home, so it stops rising in later years. Applications: January 1st through May 31st, 2026. Marion County adopted the credit by county resolution (the assessor page posts "SB 756-Marion County Resolution" and a "SB 756-Amendment to Marion County Resolution of August 26, 2024"). The 2026 Base Year Application asks "Was the applicant 62 or older before January 1, 2026?" and "Does the applicant occupy the property as their primary residence? (In the case of joint ownership, only one owner need qualify)." The certification states "I was over the age of 62 before January 1st of 2026" and "I understand reapplication will be required annually to maintain the qualification for tax credit." OATS Transit serves Marion County. OATS Transit is a shared-ride, demand-response public transportation service covering 87 rural Missouri counties. Reservations are taken 7:00 am to 4:00 pm (next-day service must be requested by 1:00 pm).
