CountyCommunity Connection of Northeast Oregon (CCNO) is the Area Agency on Aging that serves Baker County. Its services include family caregiver support, in-home caregivers through Oregon Project Independence (OPI), meal sites and home-delivered meals, medical rides, regular check-in phone calls for seniors who live alone, options counseling, legal help referrals for people over 60, and free short-term loans of medical equipment such as wheelchairs. CountyThe Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) gives qualified low-income households a once-a-year payment to help with home heating, no matter the heat source (wood, natural gas, electric, propane, oil or pellets). In Baker County, Community Connection of Northeast Oregon takes applications and has a priority system for seniors and households with a disabled member. After you apply, a coordinator calls to set up an energy appointment, which can take up to 45 days. If you have a shut-off notice, call your local office right away. Call the Baker County community center at 2810 Cedar St in Baker City at 541-523-6591. Funding is limited.

CountySaint Alphonsus Medical Center – Baker City, part of Saint Alphonsus Health System and Trinity Health, offers financial assistance based on family size, income, assets and insurance status. Under the Trinity Health policy, income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level can get a full discount on medically necessary care, and income between 201% and 400% may get a partial discount. You can apply before or after care. For help after a hospital or clinic visit, call Customer Service toll-free at 1-866-626-7272.

Dial-A-Ride (Baker County Public Transit, Community Connection) — Baker
CountyBaker County Public Transit, run by Community Connection of Northeast Oregon, offers Dial-A-Ride service for anyone inside the Baker City limits, and it is now fare-free. Rides run Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Thursday 10:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; on Tuesdays and Thursdays the route starts and ends in the outlying rural communities. Vehicles are wheelchair accessible. Call at least one day (24 hours) ahead at 541-523-7433.
