Valley Program for Aging Services (VPAS) is the Area Agency on Aging for Bath County. It is the local starting point that connects older adults and caregivers to Meals on Wheels and VPAS Cafes, senior transportation (60+), caregiver support, Medicare consultation (VICAP), information and assistance, one-time emergency financial help, ombudsman, Senior Cool Care, and Farm Market Fresh vouchers. Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) — Bath

County

The Virginia Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps income-eligible households in Bath County pay heating and cooling bills, with crisis help for shut-offs and broken equipment. Apply during the program windows through the Bath County Department of Social Services, online at CommonHelp, or by phone at 1-833-5CALLVA. Households with an adult 60 or older or a person with a disability are a priority group. Fuel Assistance applications are taken each fall and Cooling Assistance each summer, while funds last.

Uninsured and underinsured residents of Bath County can apply for financial assistance (charity care) at Bath Community Hospital for emergency and medically necessary care. Real Estate Tax Relief for the Elderly & Disabled — Bath

County

Bath County offers real estate tax relief (exemption) for homeowners who are 65 or older or permanently disabled. Total household income must be $50,000 or less, and net worth (not counting the home) must be $200,000 or less. County Code Sec. 15-7 (Chapter 15 - Taxes and Fees PDF, published on the county site's Local Code page): full exemption for owners 65+ or permanently and totally disabled. Combined net financial worth 'shall not exceed two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000.00)', excluding the dwelling and up to ten acres. Annual affidavit filed with the Commissioner of the Revenue by May 1 (forms provided by the Commissioner's office; the COR page confirms 'Tax Relief Application Due Date: May 1st'). Apply through the local commissioner of the revenue or assessment office.
