It is the local starting point that connects older adults and caregivers to Same AAA as Smyth (PSA 03, Marion VA): home-delivered meals, Friendship Cafes, homemaker/chore services, care management (60+), caregiver support, VICAP, ombudsman, limited legal aid for persons 60+, medical transportation for seniors. Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) — Wythe

The Virginia Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps income-eligible households in Wythe County pay heating and cooling bills, with crisis help for shut-offs and broken equipment. Apply during the program windows through the Wythe County Department of Social Services, online at CommonHelp, or by phone at 1-833-5CALLVA. Real Estate Tax Relief for the Elderly & Disabled — Wythe

County

Wythe County offers real estate tax relief (exemption) for homeowners who are 65 or older or permanently disabled. Total household income must be $35,000 or less, and net worth (not counting the home) must be $100,000 or less. Maximum relief of up to $250 applied to the real estate bill due December 5. Apply each year between February 1 and April 30 in the Commissioner of the Revenue's office (290 South 6th Street, Wytheville). Owner on the tax bill must be at least 65 on or before December 31 of the immediately preceding taxable year (spouse may be younger); no minimum age for permanently and totally disabled owners. Age quote: 'The owner whose name appears on the tax bill must be at least 65 years of age on or before December 31 of the immediately preceding taxable year in which the application is made.' Apply through the local commissioner of the revenue or assessment office.

County

Mountain Lynx Transit (District Three Public Transit) serves Wythe County with Fixed-route loops in Wytheville plus demand-response routes serving Wythe and Bland counties; demand-response service to areas of each county at least once per week. Fares are currently free for everyone, so no separate senior fare exists..
