Tax Relief

Programs here are typically worth $100–$2,000 a year to an eligible household.

Senior Property Tax Freeze (SB 190) — St. Charles

County

St. Charles County has adopted Missouri's senior property tax credit (SB 190): homeowners 62 or older can freeze the real-estate tax bill on their primary home, so it stops rising in later years. Applications: The application period for the 2026 tax year was March 1-July 6, 2026.. Run by the St. Charles County Collector of Revenue (Michelle D. McBride, 201 N. Second St., Suite 134, St. Charles, MO 63301). Applications are available in person, online and by mail. Eligible residents must apply or renew every year. The program began in tax year 2024 and does not apply retroactively; the first year of eligibility sets the "base year" and no reduction is expected on that year's bill. The credit applies to all taxing jurisdictions within the county (ambulance, fire, school districts, cities), but NOT to the portion of the bill for bonded indebtedness or the State Blind Pension Fund. Only real estate qualifies - property taxed as personal property (e.g. mobile homes) does not. Apply through the county's program office.
